Update on Transportation Services

The transportation clarification article posted to our web on September 8, 2011, has been rescinded and replaced with this update on transportation services:

Effective for dates of services September 1, 2011, transportation for medical appointments will be covered by the Medicare Program for Asbestos Related Disease if the beneficiary attends an appointment outside of their city of residence; and:

  • The services are reasonable and medically necessary
  • The beneficiary is using personal or public transportation such as a bus, taxi, van, etc and submits a receipt for the services provided

Prior authorization for transportation expenses through the Care Coordinator is encouraged.
