Prior Suggestions and Recommendations

There POEAG meeting recommendations and/or suggestions from the prior event with updates are reflected below.

Suggestion Date Description Resolution
12/12/17 Part A Remits on Portal The MBI and Medical Review enhancements have taken priority for portal enhancements. Noridian sees values and continues to evaluate scheduled portal projects and the access to historical remittance advices from EDI.
12/12/17 TPE and Medical Review Webinar A request for a Targeted Probe & Educate (TPE) event that included Noridian Medical Review examiner insight on what they were observing was submitted to Medical Review. CMS was contacted and approved the creation of training material. An Education on Demand tutorial was published April 2018, Targeted Probe & Educate (TPE) 4:49 minutes.
09/12/17 In-Person Seminar Details Noridian indicated seminars for 2018 will be a partnership with hospitals to increase provider collaboration and attendance. Morning and afternoon seminars were held in Guam on March 5 and in Hawaii on April 18. The California and Nevada seminar planning activities and date confirmation are underway. We anticipate an event in Las Vegas the week of October 22.
03/13/18 Alerts on Homepage The Self-Service team (web, portal, email list) was informed of the request to have alerts communicated outside of the homepage. A decision for mass distribution compared to applicable notification is being evaluated.

New Agenda Items

Prior to the meeting, Noridian solicited agenda topics from members and evaluated significant program changes to discuss.

New Medicare Card / Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) Look-Up Portal Function

The MBI Lookup tool became available via the Noridian Medicare Portal (NMP) on May 31. Based on the published MBI mailing strategy, the MBI can only be accessed 21 days after the mailing of the Medicare Card occurred.

The Noridian "New Medicare Card" webpage was renamed "Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI)." It was redesigned and placed in a more prominent Browse By Topic section of our website on April 10. It provides resources, the new card appearance, and timelines for activities.

Self Service Enhancements

  • Website Changes
  • Social Media
    • Our Youtube channel was launched in March. Education on Demand videos are now available on Youtube
      • Versions on our website require name or provider information and result in a completion certificate
      • Noridian Medicare Part A & B Youtube versions display a playlist promoting related Noridian videos once one tutorial ends
  • Portal Enhancements
    • MBI Lookup Tool was launched May 31. When a patient's details are entered accurately and it's been 21 days since the MBI card mailing, it will return a beneficiary's MBI
    • Medical Review Additional Documentation Request (ADR) view of letter, submission, and status feature was launched for Part B on May 3. Part A is planned for deployment August 2018.
    • The Part A Cost Report submission feature is no longer be available as the CMS MCREF tool is being supported; however, status inquiries will continue to be offered
    • CERT and MR secure message for Part B was launched May 3; however, there were technical challenges associated with the response to inquiries received. We had not advertised the functionality so our temporary decommissioning of this feature should be of minimal impact. Of the questions received, we found providers were using this as an avenue to submit general questions instead of the tool's defined CERT and MR inquiry purpose

Provider Enrollment

CMS selected Noridian to coordinate with the CMS Provider Enrollment and Oversight Group (PEOG) hosted a two-day CMS National Provider Enrollment Conference in San Diego, CA April 24-25. The Conference covered topics related to revalidation, processing improvements, policy updates, PECOS enhancements, NPPES, and Medicaid enrollment. Noridian had approximately 615 attendees out of the 750 that registered to attend. The team was able to quickly and directly assist many providers and their staff members with questions ranging in a variety of topics. Through those interactions and collaborations, we are creating plans for new content and educational material for noridianmedicare.com including more information and tips relating to enrollments for Telemedicine and Telehealth providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers, Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility and more.

  • A POEAG member gave a congratulation on the attendance, impressive and wonderful.
  • POEAG members are looking forward to the new webinars, website updates and materials coming by the end of the year.
  • A POEAG member attended the meeting and shared they really enjoyed the conference.
  • When using the public website enrollment status look-up tool, can there be an alternative to requiring the webtracking number which providers do no always have readily available.
    • Noridian is protective of the information accessed through our public website and related tools. As an alternative, we hope to offer a more robust tool within NMP for providers who have existing groups, changes or revalidations.

Open Discussion / Comments

  • POEAG members are excited for the CA seminars and encouraged Noridian to clarify the event is intended for Part A and Part B providers. They asked for Noridian to avoid religious holidays when solidifying the event date.
  • A member shared, "Congratulations on the PE event attendance, impressive and wonderful. I look forward to the material availability (via webinars) and being able to share those. I was on a POE meeting this morning and a MAC is offering the ability to display the ADRs; this will be a sizeable benefit to providers and will generate a higher response rate with access in a single space and the ability to respond in that tool."
