Contractor Advisory Committee (CAC)
Noridian maintains a CAC for each state within Jurisdiction E with the purpose of offering:
- A formal mechanism for physicians in the State to be informed of and participate in the development of an LCD in an advisory capacity
- A mechanism to discuss and improve administrative policies that are within carrier discretion; and
- A forum for information exchange between Noridian and physicians.
The focus of the CAC is to discuss Draft Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), issues presented in each state, and administrative policies. The Noridian CAC does not address issues and policies related to private insurance business, is not a forum for peer review, and is not an avenue for discussion of individual cases, claims, or providers.
While the CAC reviews all draft LCDs, the final implementation decision about LCDs rests with the Contractor Medical Directors (CMDs) who jointly develops the agenda with the CAC members.
The CAC is composed of physicians (no more than one per specialty/provider type), a beneficiary representative, and representatives of other medical organizations. The role of each CAC members serve to improve the relations and communication between Medicare and the physician community. This includes disseminated draft LCDs and information about the Medicare program and discuss inconsistent or conflicting Medicare medical review policies. CAC members are not paid for their services.
Meetings occur no less than three times per year. The following state-by-state CAC meetings are for members and invited guests.
