Same Day Transfers - JE Part A

A same day transfer occurs when a beneficiary is admitted to your facility and is expected to stay overnight, but subsequently transfers to a different facility before midnight.

Same Day Transfer to Participating Hospital

• Patient is admitted with the expectation they will remain in hospital overnight
• Transferring hospital is paid based on per diem
• Both hospitals count the day for cost report and Pricer purposes
• Receiving hospital charges utilization days

Transferring Hospital Billing Instructions

• Append condition code 40
• "Through" and "Admit" dates must be the same
• Show one non-covered day
• List charges and units as covered
• Include an appropriate patient status code
