Hospital Specific Amount (HSP) Updates and FISS Reprocessing Notice
The Noridian Audit and Reimbursement teams have recently seen an increase in questions regarding the updated hospital-specific amounts in the Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) for Sole Community Hospitals (SCHs) and the Medicare-Dependent, Small Rural Hospital (MDH) Program, specifically the Hospital-Specific (HSP) amounts.
While the MDH program is set to expire under current law as of October 1, 2025, CMS has instructed MACs to update the HSP rates so that SCH and MDH rates in the PFS remain uniformly updated.
Please note: HSP calculations were corrected in Noridian's system as of January 19, 2026. Any affected inpatient claims will automatically reprocess in the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS) system within 60 days with an effective date of October 1, 2025.
