CPAP Policy

A revision is being made in the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) policy that was published in the Spring 2002 (April) DMERC Region D Supplier Manual update. In the Coverage and Payment Rules Section under Initial Coverage, the fifth paragraph is being revised to say:

"For the purpose of this policy, polysomnographic studies must not be performed by a DME supplier. This prohibition does not extend to the results of studies conducted by hospitals certified to do such tests."

A revised policy with this change will be published in the Summer 2002 (July) Supplier Manual update. The effective date of the policy remains the same - i.e., dates of service on or after July 1, 2002.
