CMS implemented a supplier exemption process for the required prior authorization program for certain DMEPOS items. Suppliers that met exemption criteria were provided an opportunity to opt out of exemption between April 2 and April 30, 2026. For suppliers that have missed the opt-out window, CMS has approved a one-time extension, and the opt-out extension period is May 19 through May 26, 2026. Suppliers who wish to opt out of exemption must submit a request within this timeframe. Requests received after May 26, 2026, will be denied.
