Recent reports have identified that suppliers are billing Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code K0108 (WHEELCHAIR COMPONENT OR ACCESSORY, NOT OTHERWISE SPECIFIED) for a Transit System and related components. A transit system is a tie down or similarly functioning locking system placed in a motor vehicle to keep a wheelchair stable during transport. Brackets or similar items are bolted to the motor vehicle floor to help secure the tie down system. Suppliers must not bill this miscellaneous code for transit systems and related components. The correct code to bill is:
A9270 - NONCOVERED ITEM OR SERVICE
For questions about correct coding, contact the Pricing, Data Analysis, and Coding (PDAC) contractor at (877) 735-1326 during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, or e-mail the PDAC by completing the DME PDAC Contact Form available on the website www.dmepdac.com.
