Electronic Remittance Advice

The ERA provides the same information as a paper advice, and, when used in conjunction with the necessary ERA reader software, can be posted automatically to supplier accounts receivable and/or patient billing systems.

  • Faster communication and payment
  • Information is portable, reusable, retrievable and is easily stored (Common Electronic Data Interchange (CEDI) holds ERAs for 45 days; by storing ERAs on supplier's file, they will be available at any time)
  • Can be exchanged between partners with much greater ease than a Standard Paper Remittance (SPR) Advice
  • Faster account reconciliation via electronic posting
  • Displays withholding/collection information on Summary Page
  • Detailed information and reporting
  • Improves office productivity
  • Automation of follow-up action
  • Paperwork reduction

Get Copy of Remittance Advice to Bill Secondary/Tertiary Payers

Once a supplier is set up with ERAs for accounts reconciliation, there are two options for them to print a copy of a Remittance Advice.

Noridian Medicare Portal (NMP)

  • To verify access to this function, access Manage My Account at top of NMP
  • Go to Provider/Supplier Combination section
  • Verify under Functions tab that Remittance Advice box is checked
    • If not checked, End User must check box to request access and Provider Administrator will approve/deny

When logged into an account, all users may update information by selecting Manage Account at top of NMP

Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP)

CMS has developed free MREP software that gives suppliers a tool to view and print an 835 in a readable format, locally on computer

MREP software features include:

  • Easy navigation and viewing of ERA
  • Prints ERA in SPR format
  • Search capability that allows suppliers ability to find claim information easily
  • Print and export reports about ERAs including denied, adjusted, and deductible applied claims
  • Easy-to-use method to archive, restore, and delete imported ERAs

For additional MREP information, visit the CMS Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP) webpage or call the Common Electronic Data Interchange (CEDI) Help Desk Support.
