CRNA licensed professional nurse who is licensed by the state in which the nurse practices and provides anesthesia/related services consistent with

  • State scope of practice, training and clinical privileges
  • Settings include Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), office or outpatient hospital
    • May submit claims to Medicare directly for their services or have payment made to an employer or an entity under which they have a contract
  • Specialty code 43
    • May draw blood gases, insert arterial lines, place peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICCs) and central venous pressure (CVPs) monitors
  • Consistent with formal guidelines and instructions
  • With skills assessment provided during training

Locum Tenens arrangements do not apply to CRNAs and AAs.

"Incident To"

  • "Nerve Blocks" may be reimbursed as part of physicians or Non Physician Practitioners (NPP) patient management with chronic pain
    • NPP include
      • Nurse Practitioner (NP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), and Physician Assistant (PA)
  • If CRNA is
    • Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)
    • CNS
    • "Incident to" a physician or NPP
