Roles - Portal Guide
Roles
The portal offers five roles with different levels of access. Prior to registration, organizations should discuss internally who is going to hold each role. Each organization must name at least one Provider Administrator to register first. Each person may register for one role only. All portal users must be in the United States.
Provider Administrator
The Provider Administrator acts as the "Gatekeeper", responsible for reviewing and approving or denying registrations and access requests from both End Users and Vendor Administrators. For large organizations, this could be someone in the IT department. This role does not include access to portal functionality. Administrators must register first, before any other Provider End Users in the organization.
Noridian strongly recommends assigning a backup Provider Administrator to prevent a call to Noridian if an Administrator gets locked out.
TIN/NPI Limits: Five per Tax Identification Number (TIN) | 25 TINs per Provider AdministratorProvider End User
Provider End Users are the individuals who actively use portal functions such as checking eligibility, claim status, and submitting appeals.
Third Party Billers: If your organization does not directly send files to Noridian but are responsible for sending claims to the entity that will be transmitting the claims, you should register as Provider End Users. A member of the provider's office must be registered as the Provider Administrator.
TIN/NPI Limits: There is no limit to the number of Provider End Users.
Dual Role
For small organizations with fewer than 25 employees, the Dual Role allows access to both Provider Administrator and End User functions. Dual Role access is approved by Noridian and is not available for vendors. This is very practical when a single person needs to manage users as well as run inquiries for patients.
If you are registering for a dual role, you will need to register as an Administrator first. Once the Provider Administrator account is active, select the "Manage Account" link and then go to the "Account Access and Role(s) tab. Here you can select to change your account to the "Provider/Supplier Administrator and End User" role. Select the Request Change button. Noridian will review your request and an email will be provided if the request was approved or denied.
TIN/NPI Limits: 25 TINS per Dual Role accountVendor Administrator
The Vendor Administrator role is similar to the Provider Administrator but is optional and intended for facilities that want their clearinghouse to access portal information. Like Provider Administrators, Vendor Administrators do not have access to portal functionality. Each TIN/NPI/PTAN/Trading Partner ID combination may have up to two Vendor Administrators.
TIN/NPI Limits: Two per TIN/NPI/PTAN/Trading Partner ID combinationVendor End User
Vendor End Users, typically from the clearinghouse, are granted access to portal functions as approved by the Vendor Administrator.
TIN/NPI Limits: There is no limit to the number of Vendor End Users.
